Student Loan Borrowers 0wned, er, Lost
Today the big ID theft story is about how a million names and SSN's got themselves lost. That's tragic and interesting and all, but the best part of the story is that I was interviewed on camera for the six o'clock news piece by Clara Tuma of KVUE (formerly with Court TV, which is where I knew her from).
The angle they used on me was weird, but there was a nice shot of my building, and the quotes they went with were pretty excellent. Full of doom and gloom, and some practical advice on how Texans can freeze their credit reports. It's a pretty cool feature of Texas law -- change the state of your credit identity from default-open to default-closed.

Tod,
This is referring to your white paper "Phishing Detection and Prevention". It is well written educated paper and easy to understand.
After reading, I have an idea that may help detecting phishing web site.
It is very simple, checking website IP address. When the web browse connects to a website, it will make a TCP connection to an IP address. Every one on the Internet has an IP address that must register with IANA (whois database). No one (or website) can fake an IP address on the Internet. Web browser knows the IP address of the website. By checking the WHOIS database, we will know the owner. There are many problems with WHOIS database. The best way to do is using a local database that has legit financial institution IP address. If the IP address of the website is not in local database, we will know it is a phishing website. There is no URL lookup, DNS name resolution, or WHOIS lookup. (Except in some special case)
I need you opinion on this.
Thank for your time.
